Fête du chocolat at Fortress Louisbourg, Sept 21, 2024

We are excited to announce the return of Fête du Chocolat, a celebration of chocolate and history at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site!

This unique event aims to honor the historic connection between chocolate and 18th century Louisbourg, while also showcasing the finest local chocolate creations of today. On September 21st,, Acadian chocolate makers Gabrielle Breault from La Petite Patrie and Dominique Chartrand from Chocolat Voyageur will be our feature chocolate experts, joined by Jessica LeBlanc who specializes in Acadian Culture and Wild Foods.

Gabrielle, Dominique and Jessica will be talking about chocolate farming, sustainability and traditional chocolate making. Gabrielle and Dominique focus on Bean to Bar through their businesses, and are planning some immersive chocolate tasting workshops for visitors. They will also have some of their delectable products for sale on site.

Visitors who come during the day will also have the opportunity to explore various activities throughout the site. Parks Canada heritage interpreters will be offering a chocolate truffle making workshop and a “History of Chocolate” presentation.

To satisfy visitor cravings for chocolate, our food outlets will be offering a tantalizing array of chocolate-themed treats. Indulge in a delightful assortment of confections, pastries, and drink specials expertly crafted by our knowledgeable staff who will push the boundaries of culinary creativity.

As the sun sets and the evening unfolds, we invite visitors to join us for a remarkable dining experience (additional ticket purchase required). Grandchamp restaurant will serve a sumptuous meal where chocolate takes center stage, enhancing each exquisite dish with its rich and velvety allure. After the meal, guests will be led to a campfire for storytelling and a cacao drinking ceremony. The event continues with live music and a special drink menu at the Storehouse Tavern. Guests will be immersed in melodic tunes and enjoy the festive atmosphere, mingling with fellow chocolate enthusiasts and soaking in the historic surroundings.

The Fête du Chocolat on Saturday, September 21st promises to be a chocolate celebration unlike any other!

The Fortress of Louisbourg offers a variety of experiences for visitors of all ages and interests. Travel back in time as you roam the streets of the reconstructed fortress, learn first-hand from authentically-clad “residents” what it was like during the 18th-century, and visit with a Mi’kmaw interpreter to learn about the culture and heritage of the people who have interacted with the lands since time immemorial.
